Burack and Kchikian have been working collaboratively for over four years. The Economist Series collaboration speaks to the artists both as individuals and as a part of the collective experience, commenting on the greater, social importance of creating and dialoguing together.
Each artist brings parts of their individual practice to the work while also being influenced by each other’s decisions and techniques, and ultimately, they create a larger, third entity of their combined sensibilities. While they work, their actions are planned and spontaneous, and they often negotiate decisions and share commentaries while working on multiple pieces at a time. The Economist Series is an exploration of their shared investigation into everyday patterns, imagery, forms and materials. Qualities of drawing, collage, documentation, textiles, soft sculpture and spatial experience inform their collaborative decisions.
